New Zealand Telepsych Network

Along with increased demand and limited available resources, the geography and population distribution of New Zealand has contributed to inequity of access to mental health services. We created the New Zealand Telepsych Network (NZTN) to help address that inequity and to make sure as many Kiwis as possible have access the high quality mental health services that are available through the private sector.

 

What is NZTN?

NZTN is a New Zealand-based, nationwide, mental health service that helps clients connect with mental health providers, using our state-of-the-art telepsych platform. This platform allows you the flexibility to engage with a mental health provider in a manner that suits your needs.

 

Accessing Our Services

You can begin accessing mental health services right now by completing the following steps:

  1. Create an account.
  2. Complete the screening questionnaire (this includes information about the services you desire and any preferences you have).
  3. Complete an optional assessment (this includes a variety of mental health questionnaires that can help your provider more quickly understand your needs).
  4. Your information will be reviewed by our triage team who will determine if the NZTN is an appropriate option for your needs. 
  5. After the triage process is completed, we will contact you and offer you options for continuing. If we determine that we cannot provide services to you, we will provide other recommendations. 
  6. Payment is made through our automated system. Costs are based on the type of service, the profession, and experience of the provider you see.   
  7. When you have selected a provider from the options supplied, we will contact the provider and they will confirm their availability. When you have been matched with a provider, you will go to their calendar and chose from the available appointment times.
  8. If you are not happy with the provider you have been matched with, you can notify our support team and we will find you a different provider.
  9. All future appointments will be scheduled in the same way by you. Scheduling an appointment is your commitment to attend and your account will be debited at the completion of each scheduled session. If you do not attend a scheduled appointment, are more than 10 minutes late, or cancel within 24 hours, a no-show fee will be charged.   
  10. You can discontinue your participation with NZTN at any time and for any reason. When you are ready to discontinue services, notify our support team and you will be refunded any remaining payments in your account.
  11. Your Client Portal account will become inactive in the NZTN system after you discontinue receiving services, but can be reactivated if you decide to reengage with our services in the future.

Do I need an account?

Yes, the first step in the process of accessing services from NZTN is creating an account on the Client Portal on the NZTN.

What kind of mental health services are available on NZTN?

While not all of the following are always available to all users, NZTN offers the following services.

How do I get matched with a provider?

We will use the information that you provide to us in the registration and screening process to match you with an appropriate provider. If you do not feel the matched provider is a good fit after the initial session, you can contact our support team and they will find you another provider. 

How are the service paid for?

NZTN is a private pay system and we do not accept payments from third parties unless otherwise documented on the system (e.g., we do participate with some Employee Assistance (EAP) Programmes). We can also provide receipts for reimbursement purposes if necessary. 

Services are paid for using bankcard payments or bank transfer. The cost of the services provided on NZTN vary by the service provided, and by the profession and experience of the person providing the services.

Are in-person services available?

All of our services are provided exclusively through our video platform and therefore In-person services are not available through NZTN. However, some of our providers may offer in-person services in the community where they live through other entities.  

Is my information kept private?

We value your privacy and use the latest methods to protect your information that is stored on our network. Access to your personal information is restricted to only those who need to see it in order for us to deliver the services you require. Your account and those of the providers are password protected and we use two factor authorisation for all logins to any account on NZTN.
